Sucker Punch is the latest project from director Zack Snyder, who brought the movies 300 and Watchmen to the big screen. Snyder’s description of the film is “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns”. This movie kicks butt! The “wonderland” that Baby Doll, Australian actress Emily Browning, falls into is a mental institution in the 1950’s. She’s sent there by her evil stepfather and is scheduled to be lobotomized in 5 days. In those 5 days she conspires with her fellow inmates to escape the asylum. One of the girls is played by High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens. She’s a real surprise standout in the movie as Blondie, one of Baby Doll’s fellow prison girls. The five females use a fantasy world in their imagination to escape the daily abuse in the asylum and to hatch a plan to get them out of there. It’s in the fantasy world where all of the action happens. This crew of girls fights monsters, dragons, giant ninjas and undead Nazi soldiers. Five hot chicks with swords swinging...

This may only be his third feature film, but I still think it’s appropriate to call Spike Jonze a visionary filmmaker. His work, both on the big screen and on the small screen (all of his music videos), is some of the most honest, creative, and unique I’ve ever seen. A few weeks back, after seeing Spike’s Where the WIld Things Are, I went to the Beverly Hilton Hotel to interview Mr. Jonze, and he invited me into bed. I’m not even joking - Spike and I got into bed together (not under the covers, of course!) to talk about bringing Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s book to life on the big screen exactly the way he first envisioned it. I wish I had a photo, or video, to prove that we did this in bed, but I don’t. Spike had been tired from doing press all day and needed to rest, so since we were in a hotel room, he invited me to do the interview in bed. Magnet debuted the official US trailer for John Woo’s Red Cliff on Apple last week, which will finally (after two years) be hitting US theaters in November as part of the Six Shooter Film Series V2. We actually ran the very first teaser trailer for Red Cliff back in February of 2008, just to show you how long this film has been around. I still haven’t seen it but I am looking forward to seeing it, just because looks so incredibly epic. As expected, this doesn’t feature any dialogue, so as to not scare away Americans who hate subtitles. It does look pretty damn good, it may just be tough to sit through four hours of this.
